About

MISSION: A sustainable, liveable climate resilient Africa, where people have access to food and water (basic human rights).

The Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) Working Group I (WG1) sixth assessment report (AR6) released in 2021 attracted attention across the planet. The report provided unequivocal evidence that human activities that generate greenhouse gases (such as fossil fuel burning) are responsible for the unprecedented warming of the Earth’s atmosphere and that every region on the planet is affected. The United Nations Secretary General said that it is a code red for humanity. IPCC’s Working Group II (Impacts, Adaptation, and Vulnerability) and WG III (Mitigation) reports that followed in 2022 and the IPCC Synthesis report released in 2023 provided more comfort in the way of solutions, interventions, and innovations that can be implemented. Multiple international organizations (e.g., World Meteorological Organization, United Nations Disaster Risk Reduction, and WeADAPT, to name a few) are working hard to create workable scalable solutions.

Africa is especially vulnerable to the effects of the climate crisis given its low adaptive capacity and triple challenge of poverty, unemployment and inequality. The continent contributed the least to greenhouse gas emissions, yet it is warming at a faster pace compared to the rest of the world. Increasing climate literacy holds the promise of empowering people to take individual actions. Integrating climate education into schools will create a future generation that are better equipped to handle the challenges of a changing world. Establishing research platforms and building capacity at tertiary level and research councils will enable stakeholders (e.g., academia, government, and communities) to create region-specific solutions. The possibilities are limitless and need to be fully explored and implemented urgently. This provides sufficient motivation for the goals of this website.
